Practise All Road Types Before Test Day
On test day, your examiner will select one of 8 possible routes to evaluate your driving skills. Familiarising yourself with these routes and identifying any challenging spots in advance can give you a significant edge. While navigating through Tottenham, you will come across a range of road types, such as:
Main Roads
Busy main roads like the A10 (High Road) and A1010 (Fore Street), both close to the test centre, involve multi-lane traffic and higher speed limits, testing your ability to merge and change lanes.
Urban Traffic
The area around Tottenham Hale and Seven Sisters features bustling traffic, with busy intersections and complex junctions. These sections test your ability to handle stop-and-go conditions.
Residential Streets
Nearby residential areas, such as those in Northumberland Park or Bruce Grove typically have narrow lanes, parked cars, and pedestrian crossings, requiring you to maintain controlled speeds.
Roundabouts
Key roundabouts, including those on Lansdowne Road and Watermead Way require good lane discipline, clear signaling, and confident decision-making.
Rural and Quieter Roads
Parts of the route may include quieter roads near Tottenham Marshes or the Lea Valley area. These stretches require you to adjust your speed and awareness.
Test Manoeuvre Practice
Practicing your required manoeuvres on the roads near the Tottenham Test Centre will not only enhance your skills but boost your confidence when it comes to test day. During the exam, you may be required to carry out any of the following:
Emergency Stop: This may be conducted on quieter roads near Selby Road or the residential streets of South Tottenham. You’ll need to demonstrate your reaction time and control.
Parallel Parking: Might be tested on residential streets such as those near Northumberland Park or the streets around Bruce Grove. You’ll need to showcase your ability to position your car accurately.
Reversing Around a Corner: Quieter roads like those found near Park View Road or Lansdowne Road may be the setting for you to display your control of the vehicle.
Pulling Up on the Right: This could be tested on less crowded roads like those near Shelbourne Road or Marsh Lane. You’ll need to pull up on the right-hand side, reverse for a short distance, and then safely rejoin the traffic.

The Tottenham Driving Test Centre is conveniently located at the Annex Building, Selby Centre and offers essential amenities including male and female toilets.
