Practise Routes Before You Take Your Test
Familiarising yourself with the latest test routes is essential. Your examiner will choose from one of 9 pre-determined routes, so knowing the roads and any potential tricky areas in advance can give you a significant advantage. While navigating through Uxbridge, you may encounter a range of road types, including:
Main Roads
Sections of Cowley Mill Road and Uxbridge Road (A4020), both close to the test centre, require you to manage moderate to heavy traffic, handle multi-lane driving, and navigate through busier intersections.
Residential Areas
The test may take you through nearby residential areas such as those around Cowley and Hillingdon. These streets often feature narrow lanes, parked cars, and pedestrian activity.
Suburban and Industrial Routes
Roads around Uxbridge Industrial Estate and areas like Rockingham Road provide a mix of commercial and suburban traffic and may include a combination of slower-moving vehicles and delivery trucks.
Roundabouts
Successfully maneuvering through roundabouts such as those on Park Road and near Hillingdon Circus requires good timing, correct lane positioning, and confident decision-making.
Test Manoeuvre Practice
Becoming familiar with the test routes can help you anticipate where examiners might ask you to perform one of your specific manoeuvres. You will be better prepared for potential scenarios such as:
Parallel Parking: Tested in residential streets such as those in Cowley or around Hillingdon Hill. You’ll need to park between two cars on the side of the road, demonstrating precision and good judgment.
Reversing Around a Corner: Assessed on quieter streets like those near Rockingham Road or within the nearby industrial estate. You’ll need to reverse around a corner smoothly and accurately.
Pulling Up on the Right: You might be asked to pull up on the right-hand side of the road, reverse for a short distance, and then rejoin traffic safely. This manoeuvre could be tested on less busy roads such as those near Uxbridge Moor or the quieter areas around Cowley Mill Road.
Emergency Stop: Often tested on roads near the industrial areas or quieter sections close to Cowley Business Park. You’ll be required to stop the vehicle promptly and safely upon command.

-
We believe it can, and many of our users agree!
The app serves as an effective training tool aimed at boosting your confidence... and therefore readiness for test day, with numerous positive reviews.
-
Yes, it can. Our app helps pinpoint areas where manoeuvres are commonly performed during tests.
Familiarising yourself with these potential spots makes it easier to anticipate and handle them confidently, reducing the element of surprise when you're asked to complete one during your exam.
-
Consistent practice is key.
Make sure to drive all nine test routes at various times throughout the day and in different weather conditions. This way, you’ll build the confidence and adaptability needed to handle these routes under actual test conditions.
-
Don’t be too discouraged. If your examiner felt you were ready to take the test, it means you have the skills... sometimes things just don’t go as planned.
Remember, many drivers need more than one attempt. It’s best to book a new test date and continue practising to increase your chances for next time.
