Practice The Routes Before Test Day
Performing your own mock tests is the perfect way to prepare for test day. Your examiner on the day will choose from up to 19 car, 7 motorbike or 4 ADI test routes in and around Exeter, and with our app installed you can be perfectly prepared! Get yourself familiar with all the tricky-spots and road types that you will encouter on exam day, some of which will include:
Residential Areas
Neighbourhoods like St Thomas and Heavitree will likely feature, and you'll encounter narrow streets, parked cars, and pedestrian crossings. These will test your ability to drive cautiously and maintain control at lower speeds.
Roundabouts
Exeter features numerous roundabouts, such as those at Exe Bridges and Countess Wear where you will need to display good lane discipline, effective signaling, and the ability to make quick, safe decisions.
Major Roads
Roads such as the A379 and the A376 involve higher speed limits and multiple lanes, where you'll need to demonstrate your ability to handle fast-moving traffic, perform safe lane changes, and merge effectively.
Suburban and Rural Roads
The outskirts of Exeter, including areas near Alphington and Pinhoe can be narrower and more winding, requiring precise handling and heightened awareness of potential hazards such as cyclists.
Required Test Manoeuvres
Practice your required manoeuvres more confidently when you know the actual routes you will be taking. You will be asked to carry out any of the following during your assessment:
Parallel Parking: You'll need to park between two vehicles along the side of the road, showcasing both precision and control. Often tested in residential areas such as those around Heavitree and St Leonard’s.
Reversing Around a Corner: Maintaining control and accuracy while continuously checking for pedestrians and other traffic, this could be assessed in quieter streets such as near Pinhoe.
Pulling Up on the Right: Pull up on the right-hand side of the road, reverse for a short distance, and then rejoin the traffic safely. This is often tested on quieter roads, such as those near St Thomas.
Emergency Stop: You'll need to stop the car promptly and safely on command. This could be tested on various roads, possibly in less busy areas like Cowick Lane.

FAQs
-
Indirectly, the app can help as you become familiar with the roads used on real tests.
When it comes to performing your set manoeuvre you will know the roads well, and confidence will be high!
-
They key to passing your driving test is confidence.
When you can practice your test routes in advance, it gives you a key advantage when it comes to being confident on the road.
We advise that you practice the routes on different days, and in different weather conditions to be fully prepared on test day.
-
It is safe to say that someone who has access ot the test routes, and has practiced them regularly will be more likely to pass their test. However of course this is not a guarantee.
-
Absolutely. The routes on our app are constantly updated (sometimes daily!) with accurate directions from both DVSA examiners and live GPS feeds of actual driving tests orginating from Exeter Driving Test Centre.
We don't know of any other app that provides this level of accuracy, so be careful you aren't downloading old, redundant test routes elsewhere.
-
Remember... not everyone passes first time!
The fact you are taking your test means you are ready, however the test might not have gone to plan this time.
It's advised to re-apply as soon as possible (you will receive a feedback sheet which will help) to minimise any wait times.
Inbetween tests, keep on practicing the routes in case there are any changes.
