Independent Driving Test
The test examiner will require the learner driver to follow instructions from a pre-setup SatNav independently. The SatNav will include the route that the learner will be required to track. The model or make of Satnav used while the examination is going on won’t really matter mainly because the test route will be identical. In case the student tries a different route, the examiner will advise accordingly. That said, we highly recommend the Tomtom Start 52 mainly because it’s what examiners utilise whilst examining driving tests.
Route-led provides clients with a large amount of help and support to use our test routes. You’ll get accustomed to all the different sections of the routes to be navigated during the examination. We would suggest using a skilled driving instructor in addition. For extra free information on how you can pass your driving examination go to Driving Test Practice
If you go off the independent driving route, it won’t have any impact on your test score unless you make a traffic offence, make some other driving fault or break a traffic regulation. In the case where you make an incorrect route choice, the examiner will assist you to get back to the route. Where you have obscure or poor road signs, the test examiner will instruct the examinee until they get to the next clear road sign. The learner does not need to have a good understanding of the area. You cannot use your personal SatNav for independent driving, as it gives the student very detailed instructions. The independent driving part will test if you can effect safe independent choices.
