Practise The Roads Before Test Day
Your examiner on test day will choose one of 21 routes upon which to assess your driving. Getting familiar with them, including any potentially tricky areas can put you at a huge advantage. As you drive through Bromely you will encounter a variety of road types, including:
Main Roads
Stretches of busy roads like the A2212 (Burnt Ash Road) or Baring Road typically have moderate to heavy traffic, and you’ll need to manage lane changes and maintain appropriate speeds.
Residential Areas
Nearby residential neighborhoods, such as those in Sundridge or Plaistow often have narrower streets lined with parked cars and include regular pedestrian crossings.
Suburban Areas
Bromley Common and Grove Park could be part of your route, featuring a mix of suburban traffic and varying road conditions. You’ll need to demonstrate patience and adaptability.
Town Centre Traffic
Sections near Bromley town centre, and streets like Bromley High Street or Widmore Road, will challenge your ability to handle stop-and-go traffic and interact safely with pedestrians.
Roundabouts
Navigating roundabouts, such as those near the junctions of Burnt Ash Lane and Southborough Lane requires precise lane positioning, signaling, and confident decision-making.
Practising Your Test Manoeuvres
Practising your manoeuvres on roads close to the Bromley Test Centre will help you build the skills and confidence needed to pass your driving test. You will be asked to perform any of the following:
Pulling Up on the Right: Tested on quieter roads close to Grove Park or Sundridge, you’ll need to pull up on the right-hand side of the road, reverse for a short distance, and then safely rejoin the traffic.
Parallel Parking: Normally assessed on quieter residential roads nearby, such as those around Sundridge Avenue or Plaistow Lane. You’ll need to park between two cars along the side of the road.
Reversing Around a Corner: Could be tested on less busy roads such as those near Southborough Lane or in the Sundridge Park area. You’ll be required to reverse smoothly and accurately around a corner.
Emergency Stop: Conducted on quieter sections of Burnt Ash Lane or side streets like those near Chinbrook Meadows. You’ll need to demonstrate your ability to stop the vehicle quickly and safely on command.
