Independent Driving Test

The test examiner will ask the learner driver to follow directions from a configured Sat nav independently. The Satnav will include the route that the learner needs to track. The model or make of SatNav used while the examination is going on will not really make a difference as the test-route will be the same. In case the student accidentally takes the wrong road, the examiner will advise accordingly. That said, we highly recommend the Tom Tom Start 52 mainly as it’s what examiners tend to use while examining driving tests.

Route-led provides customers with a high degree of help and support to use our test-routes. You will get used to all the different sections of the routes to be travelled during the test. We would suggest using a skilled driving teacher in addition. For extra free information on how you can practise for your driving test visit Driving Test Practice

If you go off the independent driving route, it’s not going to have any effect on your examination results unless you break a traffic regulation, make a traffic offence or make some other driving error. In the case where you make an incorrect turn, the examiner will assist you to return to the route. In case of poor or obscure traffic signs, the examiner will instruct the learner until such time as they arrive at the next clear traffic sign. The examinee doesn’t need to have a detailed understanding of the town. You can’t use your own SatNav device for independent driving, mainly because it gives the student very detailed instructions. The independent driving section will test if you are able to effect secure independent decisions.
